**NEWSFLASH** Gold Filled is not the same as gold plated

The main difference is that Gold Filled has a much thicker layer of 14k gold. Gold filled is regulated by law and has to contain at least 5% gold by weight. In comparison, the golden layers on gold plated are very thin and contain mostly 0,05% or less. That means that Gold Filled has a 100 times thicker layer of gold than most gold plated items! Gold plated is not regulated by law, so most of the time you don´t even know how thick the layer of gold is.

Another big difference is that the 14k golden layer on gold filled is bonded to the base of brass. Because of that it will last much longer than gold plated. The golden layer on gold plated items is like a thin layer on top of the base, so not bonded, and over time the golden colour will wear off. Even just by wearing it.

You are looking for a necklace that fits you perfectly but how to be sure about the size of the necklace? To decide on the perfect length of your necklace there are several ways to do this.

• Do you already have a bracelet in the right size that you want and a tape-measure? Lay the necklace on the tape-measure. Now you have your preferred necklace size.
• You can take a piece of string and put this around your neck . Then measure the length of the string and voilà! Now you know your necklace size.
• You’re always welcome to come by our showroom in Amsterdam and we will give you personal advice with the measurement for the perfect size of your necklace. In the last photo of all of our necklaces there is a model who is wearing the different sizes that we offer. This way you can choose the right size. 

If your perfect size is not in our size list, you can always contact us for a custom order.  

Avoid applying perfumes, lotions, sprays, creams etc. directly onto your jewellery.

If you are not wearing your jewellery store them in a box or pouch in a cool and dry place.

Remove your jewellery before exercising to prevent breakage or deforming.

Wear your jewellery in the shower? Yes! Water won't make the colour wear off. Just be aware that, just like with any jewellery, water will reduce the shine and possibly the teint of gold filled over time. Silver might oxidise and the colour may become darker. The metal itself can handle it though! And the good news, gold filled and sterling silver can be cleaned easily. How? Read on and you will find out.

Chlorinated swimming pools and jacuzzis aren't friends with any type of jewellery. So make sure to take your jewellery off before your swim to avoid damaging your pieces. The same applies to heavy cleaning agents, like detergents and acids.
